Fintech & Payments

Finance in Nigeria is no longer only a branch, a till, and a paper trail. Collections, transfers, wallets, and payouts now run as software: the customer’s phone, a bank’s digital channel, a processor such as Paystack or Flutterwave, NIBSS behind a bank transfer, and an operations desk that has to explain the money. Fintech is the name for that shift — financial activity delivered as a product, not as a queue.

Companies feel it whether they hold a licence or only needed to pay riders, vendors, or landlords. Cash, a spreadsheet, and one person with the bank token do not hold when volume grows, or when a partner bank, an auditor, or a regulator asks what moved. The product has to collect without leaking funds, pay out to the right GTBank or OPay account, keep a ledger that matches the settlement file, and give finance a month-end they can close. That is how you get speed, a trail, and fewer fights between product and accounts.

Emicraft is a Lagos & Abuja software studio. We build that product layer: the app customers use, the desk your team sits in, the ledger, and the connections to processors, banks, and wallets. We do not take your CBN licence. We do not register you with the SEC. We do not replace core banking. We do not keep the repository. You own the code; we ship the software.

Who this is for

  • Licensed fintechs and wallets that need a customer app and an ops desk that cannot move money alone.
  • Bank digital and agency channels that have to ship in front of a core that will not move at the same speed.
  • Marketplaces, short-stays, logistics, and rewards products that now have to collect and pay out without becoming a bank.
  • Cross-border products that land dollars or invoices and pay out in naira.

In this sector

Payments, bank channels, wallets, and control.

  • Payments & processors

Collecting, refunds, and settlement files through Paystack, Flutterwave, and Interswitch.

  • Digital banking & channels

The product in front of the core — retail, agent, or SME — with roles branch and risk will accept.

  • Wallets & payouts

Balances, transfers out, and payouts into bank accounts and wallets where naira already lives.

  • Controls, policy & audit

Dual control, named roles, a trail that can be exported, and room for KYC/AML checks your licence requires.

Areas covered

We build across the software a finance product actually runs on. Typical work includes:

  1. 01

    Customer product and operations desk

We design and build the surfaces people actually use: the web or mobile app that collects or pays, and the admin where finance, support, and operations work every day. Transfers, balances, payouts, and tickets sit in one product — not a WhatsApp group, a spreadsheet, and a processor dashboard that only one person can log into.

  2. 02

    Ledgers, settlement, and month-end

When the product says paid and the processor file does not, month-end becomes an argument. We build ledgers, settlement views, and an audit trail you can line up against a Paystack or Flutterwave export, so accounts can close the month without reconstructing history by hand.

  3. 03

    Processor, bank, and wallet integrations

Collection and payout in this market means talking to Paystack, Flutterwave, or Interswitch, then sending naira to a deposit-money bank or a wallet. We map the fields, handle webhooks, retries, and failed payouts, and treat NIBSS and CBN rules as the environment the product runs in — not a surprise at go-live.

  4. 04

    Roles, dual control, and handover

Money movement needs named people. Support can see a transfer; they cannot send one. Payouts can require two approvals. When the build is done, the repository, keys, and hosting sit in your name. Same handover as AutoShowroom, Djuix, and Kivo.

  5. 05

    KYC hooks and evidence packs

Identity capture, document storage, and the points in the flow where a KYC or screening check must pass. We connect the vendor you choose. We produce the logs and exports an auditor or partner bank will ask for — we do not sign their report for you.

What the software has to survive

A payments product is not finished when the happy path works. It has to stand up to audit, to policy, and to rails that are not only Nigerian.

Audit — internal, external, partner bank

Someone will ask who approved a payout, what the balance was at close of day, and why the processor file differs. The software has to answer with a log that cannot be quietly edited: who, what, amount, destination, and when. Idempotent webhooks so a duplicate callback does not double-pay. Exports finance and audit can take into their own tools — not a screenshot of an admin screen.

Government policy and local rails

CBN for payments licences. SEC where the product is a security, a fund, or a digital asset. NIBSS for NIP, BVN, and the switch. NDIC if you sit behind a deposit-money bank. NITDA for digital services. NDPC for the NDPA. Dual control on money movement, data you can justify holding, retention you can defend, and no silent rewrite of a posted ledger. We implement what your licence and counsel specify. We are not your compliance officer and we do not file your returns.

International systems and FX

Dollar in and naira out is not a Pay button. It is FX, a licensed partner or correspondent, two books, and two calendars. Stripe, card schemes via a processor, and messages your bank sends on SWIFT are integrations with their own failure modes. We wire corridors you are actually licensed to use — including partners such as Raenest. We do not invent a rail you do not have.

Identity, KYC, and screening

Onboarding is a control, not a form. Capture, store, and retrieve identity data under NDPA; connect to the KYC/AML vendor you already use. Sanctions and PEP screening stay with that vendor and your MLRO. We build the product so a customer cannot transact past a check you required.

Questions an auditor will ask

If the product cannot answer these, it is not ready for a partner bank, a licence review, or month-end. We design so it can.

  1. 01

Who can send money, and does it need two people?

  2. 02

Can you reconstruct a single day without guessing?

  3. 03

Where is personal data, who can see it, and how long do you keep it?

  4. 04

What happens if a processor webhook arrives twice?

  5. 05

Can you freeze an account without deleting its history?

  6. 06

If settlement and the product disagree, which record is the source — and can you show the difference?

How we build it

Security here is not a badge on this page. It is how money and identity are handled in the repo you will own.

Least privilege

Named roles at the API and in the admin. Support can read. They cannot pay. Secrets stay out of the repo.

Environments that do not mix

Test money and live money are separate. Keys, webhooks, and databases are not shared across staging and production.

Traffic and data

TLS in transit. Encryption at rest for stores that hold money or identity. No card PAN in your database if a processor can tokenise it.

Backups you can restore

Point-in-time recovery and a documented restore path. An audit trail that survives a rollback.

  • Your risk or compliance person sits in discovery — not after go-live.
  • Controls are mapped to screens and APIs before the ledger is written.
  • Handover includes runbooks: reverse a payout, export the audit log, rotate keys, freeze an account.

Where we stop

Trust in this sector starts with a clear line. We build the system. We do not pretend to be the regulator, the bank, or the auditor.

  • We do not hold or apply for your CBN licence (PSSP, MMO, or otherwise).
  • We do not hold an SEC registration, a NITDA certificate, or an NDPC filing. Those agencies define the sector. They are not a badge we wear.
  • We do not replace your bank, your lawyers, or a PCI QSA.
  • We do not claim ISO 27001, SOC 2, or PCI-DSS on this page. If you run that programme, we build so you can evidence it.
  • We do not keep production keys or the repository after handover.

The landscape

Agencies that write the rules, then processors a product talks to, and banks and wallets where naira already lives. This is the market — not a list of Emicraft clients, and not a claim that we hold those licences.

Building a product that has to survive an audit?

Bring the licence you hold, the rails you are allowed to use, and what an auditor or partner bank will ask. We will say what the software can carry — and what still belongs to your counsel and your bank.
